Are you referring to sports fishing or commercial fishing?
We use to go fishing in Calatagan, Batangas before, catching talakitok and lapu-lapu is the game. I remember whenever there's a tournament, there are sponsors mostly sportsfishing supplies stores/business who are also the organizer of the tournament. The bait, hook, lure, line, etc, are must have once you go out there in the open sea or any fishing ground I beleive. And most of these are readily available locally, imported or made in RP. You may be planning where to get yours or maybe make your own, where to put up your store, marketing plan etc. And if you love fishing, then you'll do good. BTW, where is your area?
starting a fishing supply business is like going into trading business... you have to know the demand for the products you are going to sell, whether it be in your locality and neighboring areas, or other places. you have to be near a fishing ground or at least know where to find your target customers and their needs. knowing the behavior of the market is a plus factor.
on the supply side, you have to know the kind of materials the fishermen or your target customers need, where to get them, how to haggle for a better price, when to order, and the level of inventory you want to maintain ('coz you definitely dont want your products to "sleep" in the shelves, so to speak).
knowing the supply and demand aspects will help you balance the business.
keep on visiting the tlrc website, and look for announcements on the topic to be discussed on their magnegosyo forum... i believe attendance is for free.
I am referring to small commercial fishing. I live in a fishing village here in Subic bay where most fishermen always look for a cheaper fishing supplies from small engine and spare parts to fishing gears. The small fisherfolks need is so great that the local store can't support and often cost them more that usually cause break even in their fishing operations.
I wanted to start looking for a supplier in Manila but don't know where to start. I would be glad if you could help me out on this..
Thanks,
